Sources of US Torture Policies

Colonel Ann Wright has written an insightful, succinct analysis of the relationship between the School of the Americas (now the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) and the recent US torture policies that have found horrifying expression in Abu Ghraib, the CIA's archipelago of secret detention centers, and elsewhere.

You may remember her as the 29-year US Army Reserve colonel and 16-year diplomat who resigned in March 2003 in opposition to the war on Iraq. She is president of the Camp Casey Veterans for Peace chapter located in Crawford, Texas. Veterans for Peace, a peace organization, is on the Pentagon's (unlawful) watch list of anti-war organizations.

Col Wright's piece, "Torture, the Geneva Conventions and the School of the Americas," is available exclusively at Truthout.org.
